GST/HST Exemption on Psychotherapy Services
Effective June 20, 2024, the Government of Canada has exempted psychotherapy and counselling therapy services from the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and Harmonized Sales Tax (HST). This legislative change aims to make mental health services more accessible and affordable for Canadians.
What This Means for You:
No GST/HST Charges: Services provided by licensed psychotherapists and counselling therapists are no longer subject to GST/HST
Eligibility Criteria:
To qualify for the tax exemption, services must be rendered by professionals who are either:
Licensed with a provincial regulatory body responsible for psychotherapy or counselling therapy services (e.g., Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island).
Possessing qualifications equivalent to those required for licensing in a regulated province, even if practicing in an unregulated province.
Our Commitment:
At Trickett Psychotherapy & Trickett Counselling, we are dedicated to providing transparent and affordable mental health services. In light of this tax exemption:
Updated Billing Practices: We have adjusted our billing procedures to reflect the removal of GST/HST on eligible psychotherapy services
Client Communication: Our team is available to address any questions or concerns regarding this change and its benefits to you.
