Discover How Attachment Styles Shape Your Relationships
Relationships, Mental Health, Attachment Style,
Human connection is one of our most basic needs. From the moment we are born, we learn how to give and receive love through the relationships that shape us. These early experiences often create patterns that stay with us into adulthood, influencing how we communicate, trust, and respond to emotional closeness.
At Trickett Counselling, we often help clients explore their attachment style, the unique way they connect to others in relationships. Understanding your attachment style can be an important first step toward creating relationships that feel secure, balanced, and fulfilling.
What Are Attachment Styles
Attachment theory explains how our early relationships with caregivers shape the way we approach love and trust later in life. While every person is different, psychologists generally describe four main attachment styles.
-
Secure Attachment
People with a secure attachment style feel comfortable with both intimacy and independence. They are able to give and receive love without fear of rejection or loss. -
Anxious Attachment
Those with this style often crave closeness but fear being abandoned. They may worry about not being enough, leading to overthinking, self-doubt, or a strong need for reassurance. -
Avoidant Attachment
Individuals with an avoidant attachment style often value independence but find vulnerability difficult. They might distance themselves emotionally to feel safe or in control. -
Disorganized Attachment
This style combines both anxious and avoidant behaviors. It may develop in people who experienced trauma or inconsistent caregiving. Relationships can feel unpredictable, swinging between a longing for closeness and a fear of it.

No matter what your attachment style is, healing is always possible. With support and care, you can learn to connect in ways that feel safe, balanced, and fulfilling.
At Trickett Counselling, our therapists offer a compassionate space to explore your patterns and rediscover trust in relationships. Together, we work toward helping you build connection that is grounded in understanding and emotional safety.
